7 Ways to Avoid the Flu

No one likes to be sick, but come flu season and sickness seems to be in the air. Running noses, watery eyes, cold, cough and fever are everywhere making you miserable for a week and more. But prevention is always better than the cure and it is easy to avoid getting the flu and falling sick. You just need to follow a few, very simple health tips and stay away from certain things to stay healthy.

1. Get a flu shot

It is important if you are over fifty or someone who suffers from chronic illnesses. Also it is good sense to get the shot when you work in a crowded environment or in a closed space with a lot of people, like in a school or an office where a lot of people are sneezing or walking around with a cold.

2. Wash your hands

Keep your hands clean and wash them as many times as you can. People sneeze and the phlegm can be transferred to the surfaces they touch thereby affecting you. So wash your hands after you touch the office desk, stationary or stairs.

3. Sleep well

Lack of sleep can weaken your immune system and make you susceptible to illnesses and diseases. Not everyone needs 8 hours of sleep, some need more and some can do with less, but make sure you sleep well and are rested enough before you go out to work or start your day.

4. Get your proper dose of vitamins and minerals

Whether from your normal diet or vitamin supplements, it is important that you get the required amount of vitamins and minerals. Studies show that a deficiency in vitamin e can lead to flu infections.
