Menopause is a natural occurrence that happens to every woman when she reaches middle age, which is between the ages of 35-50. Many women are caught off-guard when they experience symptoms of this syndrome which ends her fertility cycle and thus get panicked. Although the symptoms are sudden and may persist for a period of time, they are totally natural and expected. Here are some of the symptoms that will let you know if you have hit menopause.

1. Irregular periods

Scant or irregular periods are the first and most common symptoms of menopause. They can be unpredictably late or earlier than usual, could have heavy flow or very light flow. This is all due to instability in the hormones of your body which are working to end the fertility period in your life.

2. Hot flashes

Hot, or sometimes even cold flashes occur when there is a sudden wave of warmth or coldness felt in the body and is visible due to redness in the color on the face and upper body. This again happens due to the decline in the production of the female chemical, estrogen.

3. Sleep discomfort

Women going through menopause may get a little insomniac as it gets difficult to sleep because of intense sweat breakouts and feeling of heat. Not only night sweats, but even the lack of enough progesterone, which is a sleep inducing hormone can disrupt peaceful sleep. Besides estrogen, even the supply of progesterone declines during the menopausal period.

4. Vaginal dryness

Because of the lowered production of estrogen, which is responsible for keeping the vaginal area lubricated and wet, vaginal tissues start drying and become less elastic. This could cause discomfort during sex and make you feel older. There are a variety of lubricants and vaginal creams available to tackle this problem.
