6 Ways to Increase Concentration in Studies

4. Don’t learn by rote

The one mistake almost every student makes is that they try to mug things up, because they are too lazy to try and understand the subject matter. Mugging up is boring and you will never be able to concentrate on your studies if that is your method. The only way you are really going to “learn” anything is by understanding, not by rote. So instead of mugging things up and learning by rote, understand what the topic is all about and explain in your own words.

5. Write down what you learnt

Only reading up something is not enough. You must also be able to write it down because ultimately in the examinations, you have to give written answers. Many students avoid writing things down while studying because they think it takes up too much of time. But in fact, it saves you time because you remember things better when you write them down. Also writing down something you just read keeps the matter etched in your mind for a much longer period and is thus a more effective method of studying. Writing also does not let your mind wander.

6. Reward yourself

Always have a reward system ready for yourself when you sit to study. Set realistic goals for yourself. For instance, set a target like completing two chapters or solving ten problems within a specific time period. When you accomplish it, reward yourself with a treat or a round of video game or anything you really like. This will keep you focused while studying because you know that something nice is waiting for you when you are done.
