6 Tips for Your First Day at Work
First day at work can be a very thrilling experience. You don’t know what to expect. You want to be prepared, but not too organized. First day at work is like the first impression you make on your colleagues and your superiors. You need to show that you are a nice person to deal with and will certainly be an asset to the organization.
1. Wear appropriate clothing
Find out your office dress code during your induction or selection. Make sure your clothes look neat, tidy and ironed; they are not transparent or too casual. Your hair looks neat and not too out of place. It’s important to note that the way you dress and appear does make a difference.
2. Read your employees handbook
Before joining, if you have been given a set of guidelines, make sure you have read them carefully to understand the policies of the organization. You might be excused if you falter, but as a new entrant, you are expected to be aware of the rules and regulation.
3. Don’t take any action without consulting your superior
If you are faced with a problem on day one for which you don’t know what would be the right thing to do, don’t act like a star and take the matters in your own hand. You may fall on your face. No matter how insignificant the problem is, ask your boss.
