6 Quick Ways to Tone Up Your Body

4. Perform cardiovascular exercises for a lean look

Cardiovascular exercises include walking, running, swimming, biking and aerobics. These exercises do help in developing muscles, but are different from strength training. They act by strengthening the cardiovascular system, burning calories and boosting the metabolism rate. A lean look could be achieved by aerobic exercises.

5. Switch to healthy carbohydrates

Although all carbohydrates ultimately get converted into sugars, some carbohydrates are healthier than the others. The best sources of healthy carbohydrates are whole grains and whole fruits. If you are non-diabetic, one or two cups of fruit juice can be an excellent source of energy, especially before a workout. White sugar and corn syrup do not have good nutrition, and hence should be avoided. Healthy carbohydrates should be clubbed with lean protein for best results. Sliced apple dipped in almond butter, carrots dipped in hummus are good energy options before workout. Complex and fiber rich carbohydrates provide 45–60% of the calories.

6. Cleanse the colon for better digestion

The digestive system requires timely cleansing; this will rid the system of bloating, a usual problem faced by all. Including 25 grams of fiber in your everyday diet will cleanse your colon (digestive tract.) The other important must eat foods include green leafy vegetables (3–5 cups/day) and raw vegetables. Natural cleansers of the colon include flaxseeds, psyllium husk powder, roots and bitter herbs.

Finally, it is important to be patient, stay positive and workout with dedication; your good looks are just around the corner.
