6 Good Tips for Writing Poetry

4. Use your imagination

There is no rule book for poetry. Use your imagination to the fullest when you sit to write a poem. Pay attention to the tone of your poem. If you are writing a love poem, it should have a romantic tone. On the other hands, if you are writing on a grave issue, your poem’s tone should be serious. Whatever be the case, the tone should always be interactive.

5. Pay attention to the language

Writing poetry is an expression of the heart, but many amateur writers go overboard with the language at times. Poetry should always invoke a thought in the reader’s mind. And language plays a vital role in doing that. Do not use prepositions or adverbs in excess. If possible, use action verbs to emote a strong feeling in the poetry. Personify objects to enhance the appeal of the poem.

6. Be honest

If you are writing poetry for the first time, then be prepared for rejection. Not everyone out there will appreciate your poem. But, continue to be honest with your work. Write from your heart and do not stop writing even if the feedback is not good. Practice makes everyone perfect, so go for that perfection.
