6 Life Lessons to Learn from How I Met Your Mother

4. Maintain friendships for life

The biggest lesson a viewer can take from this sitcom is the essence of life long friendship which can be seen throughout all the seasons. You may say it is just a TV series but you could make sure that you stay in touch with your close pals and if not every night like those characters, at least catch up every weekend. True friendship knows no boundaries and if you be a good friend to your buddy, you will be reciprocated with the same treatment.

5. Interventions

One of the most unique things about the series was the whole intervention set up. An intervention is an event wherein the friends gather around one among them who has clearly been going off the track. They get together with him or her and put up a sign saying ‘Intervention’. They go on to discuss where the friend is going wrong and get him or her on the right track. Isn’t this a cool concept to implement in real life too when you think your friend would do good with a little counseling and self reflection?

6. Things you may not have liked before may not be that bad later on

A lesson to learn from HIMYM is the age old phrase, ‘Never say never’. You never know when you may start liking or fall in love with something or someone you hated at first sight. In season one, Ted finds an old shirt he owned for six years but had never previously liked and realizes he now likes it. He later discovers that he likes Bourbon, which he thought he hated. Realizing that his tastes have changed, he decides to reconsider girls he has previously dated but did not seem right at the time. This is definitely a life lesson everyone can relate to.
