6 Action Movies You Will Love To Watch
I’m not sure what appeals to me about action movies. Is it the hot and sexy men? Or is it my emotional attachment to the story? Whatever it is – action movies get my heart pumping! Let me take you through some of my favorite war movies. Bomb away!
Saving Private Ryan
Voted as one of the best war movies of all time, Saving Private Ryan is intense, and I mean really intense! I’ll be honest and tell you that I did shed a tear or two towards the end of the film. The movie is based on a World War II mission. 6 men are deployed to save the life of paratrooper ‘Ryan’ who is in German captivity after the invasion of Normandy in WWII. Ryan’s three brothers have already been killed by the Germans. I feel that as the movie progresses, the characters grow on you. And it becomes really hard to see death. This movie is going to rip you apart if you are a sensitive soul! Terrific story line, terrific cast – Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Edward Burns to name a few, and Terrific cinematography. 5 stars!
It is based on a story of 300 Spartan warriors who go into battle against the mighty Persian army of over one million soldiers. I find it hard to believe how emotionally attached I got by the time the movie finished. I wished I was a Spartan! The sight of Gerard Butler as Kind Leonidas gives me week knees. I won’t be entirely wrong if I said that I liked this movie mainly because of the men. I’m sure that the dialogues “This is Sparta” and “Prepare for Glory” are etched in your mind if you have seen the movie. A superb action movie with excellent visual effects, a great story line, and too many hot men - can't miss this one out.
Brad Pitt, Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom. Need I say more? Reportedly, $175 million were spent to make this war film. It is the story about Achilles (Brad Pitt), the great warrior’s fight against Sparta’s Prince Hector (Eric Bana) and Paris (Orlando Bloom). Paris fell in love with the wife of King Menelaus and brings her to Troy. King Menelaus and other forces, including Achilles reach the shores of Troy to fight back. Believe me, in store is an epic war film which has some of the most beautiful men and women in Hollywood. Love, sex, drama, revenge, family, murder, and battles – this movie has it all!
I don’t know where to start. It is tough to describe this movie in a few lines. If you’ve seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about. Captain Willard (Martin Sheen), a drunkard and an emotionally disturbed man, is set on a mission to kill Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando), another insane ex-army officer who now commands his own troops. The story is set in the fictitious Nung river, deep in Cambodian forests. It is a harsh movie which shows the reality of war life – emotional and physical disturbances caused by war. The mission is unusual, the story is unusual, the cast is superb and the movie will leave you dazed. Did you know that Apocalypse Now is rated as one of the best all time war movies Hollywood has ever seen? Yep – must watch.
Braveheart is the story of a Scot who rebels against a cruel English ruler. For the sake of some trivia, the script is based on Blind Harry’s 15th century poem ‘The Actes and Deidis of the Illustre and Vallyeant Campioun Schir William Wallace.’ What is more important is that the movie grossed $210m worldwide. I still can’t get over Mel Gibson shouting “Freedom!” as he was tortured by the English. This is a story of a legend, a true braveheart. And it’s not just me. Did you know that people from all over the world have visited Scotland to see where William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson, fought his wars. Not only this, a controversial statue depicting Gibson as Wallace was placed in the car park of the Wallace monument in Scotland. I’d rate it one of the best battles in cinema history!
The Guns of Navarone
It is 1943 and the Germans have set up dangerous and massive radar directed guns on the island of Navarone. British troops can’t get through a key sea channel because of the guns. As a last resort, a team of British military personnel enter the island disguised as fishermen. They set about on a mission to gain access to the highly fortified guns, and destroy them. Excited already? With a story line that is sure to keep you on your seat, this film was a major box office hit in 1961, earning $18.5 million. This movie is sure to rock you in your seat as the explosions go off – Gregory Peck, David Niven and Anthony Quinn are some of the more popular actors in lead roles in the movie.
If you have not watched any of the movies in this list – go grab a copy and put your seat belts on for action that is going to blow your mind.
