5 Tips on How to Handle An Argument

It is inevitable that you will have an argument with your partner every once in a while. It is only natural for people involved in relationships to fight and have arguments about things they do not agree upon. But what if things go out of hand? What if one argument eventually results in a tainted relationship? Arguments have an ugly habit of becoming nasty and ruining relationships and bringing about hatred between people who initially loved each other or were at least not on fighting terms. 1. Listen to the other

In an argument, the tendency normally is to put one’s own point of view to the fore and ignore what the other is saying. You must ensure that you also give enough scope to the person you are arguing with to say what he has to say. Thus both of you will know what really you are fighting about and a resolution will more easily be found.

2. Think before you speak

Do not argue just for the sake of arguing or just for proving yourself right even if you are not. Remember that the purpose of an argument is to resolve an issue, not to prove yourself right no matter what. During the course of an argument, you might feel intimidated to keep on abusing and saying things to insult the person you are arguing with. This will not help in any way – it will only make matters worse.

3. Be realistic

Be rational and do not just argue without making any sense. While in an argument, you might be tempted to be illogical just for the sake of making a point. But try and think realistically and make sure that what you say makes sense as it will not only strengthen your point of view, you will also be taken more seriously.
