5 Things You Never Knew About Models And Photo Shoots

It’s funny how all of us think that models and photo shoots are all about glamor, style and sexy moments. Wake up ladies, models and photo shoots may look sensual and glamorous to a lay person but in real life, it is a lot of hard work and full of not-so-glamorous moments. Here are 5 things that you probably never knew about models and photo shoots.

1. Models have a tough life

The life of models is super tough and super rough. Behind the parties and photo shoots are fragile personalities who are subject to physical and mental stress all the time. Did you know that many models go through eating disorders and malnutrition because they try to reach unhealthy slim levels? Many models also succumb to drug addiction.

2. Photo shoots require a lot of preparation

Did you think that the photography team and models could simply ‘walk-in’ to a studio and finish their photo shoots? That would be every photographer’s and model’s dream. But unfortunately, that is not the case. Teams spend hours or even days preparing the studio for that ‘perfect photo-shoot’. Every minute detail and element needs to be worked upon.

3. Photo shoots get delayed in want of proper lighting

We all know that the light levels play a vital role in any photo shoot, don’t we? But did you know that photo shoots sometimes get delayed for days or even weeks without proper lighting? Imagine the photo shoot of Swimsuit Illustrated on the sunny beaches of Mexico. What if the weather went foul and the photographers did not get enough light? It would not be practical to move the entire team to a different country. The only option would be to wait until the weather clears. This requires a lot of patience.

4. Photo shoots have a diverse work team

Imagine a photo shoot inside a studio. How big do you think a team would be? A model? A photographer? Someone for the lights? A stylist? Someone for hair and makeup? A studio designer? A coordinator? A technician? A wardrobe coordinator? The list is long. A photo shop does not simply mean point and shoot. It requires the work of a proper team.

5. Photo shoots work around the wants of the photographer

The photographer is the boss when it comes to photo shoots. There are many famous yet arrogant photographers in the industry who may be very annoying to work with. From nasty schedules, arrogant behavior to bad attitude, these photographers can be quite difficult to handle at times. But we guess, models don’t have a choice when they are paid big bucks for their pictures to be taken, do they?

We are not surprised that many of us don’t know what makes a great photo shoot work. That’s because we only see the final result, not the sweat and hard work put into it.
