Chinese New Year is an important day in the Chinese calendar. In China, it is also referred to as the spring festival. Chinese New Year is celebrated in several countries in the world, especially in countries with a significant Chinese population such as Mauritius, Mainland China, Macau, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. 1. The Chinese believe that for the New Year it is customary that you wear everything new. It is important to celebrate the start of the lunar calendar with everything new.

2. The Chinese believe that one should get a new haircut done on New Year’s Eve. However, washing hair is not considered good on New Year’s Day. The Chinese believe that if you wash your hair on the Chinese New Year day, you will wash away all your luck.

3. It is believed to bring good luck, one must clean the house and spruce it up for the New Year. However, take care that you do not sweep your home on the first day of the year as you will be sweeping away all the good luck for the year!
