5 Steps of Goal Setting that Will Help You Achieve Your Goals

Did you think that planning is all it takes to set goals? Think again. The process of goal setting consists of some critical steps that you must actively engage in. Here are the 5 key steps of goal setting that will be the pillars and foundation of your success.

Step #1: Planning targets/objectives

One of the first stages of setting goals is to give your vision some objectivity. This usually means answering questions like “What are the realistic targets or objectives of my goal setting exercise?” This gives the entire process more clarity and a strong foundation.

Step #2: Brainstorming

Once you have accurately pinpointed your targets and objectives, it is time to brainstorm your ideas with coworkers and others, who may be able to substantially contribute to your goal setting process. This stage of setting goals is all about drawing advice, expert insight and recommendations.

Step #3: Planning resources

Setting a goal is virtually useless if you don’t plan for the resources that will be required to accomplish it. This includes resources like infrastructure, time, manpower, paperwork, finances and much more. In this stage of setting goals, you will be required to answer basic questions like “What resources will I need to accomplish my goals?” and “When will I need them?”.
