4. Anxiety, sweating palms, lack of appetite or too much eating

By now, we know that homesickness is not a disease in itself but it sure is a manifestation of your mind. So your mental discomforts like anxiety can be betrayed in sweating palms, palpitations, at times even pain in the heart. If these happen, do see a doctor. Lack of appetite or eating too much are both symptoms of depression. Homesickness can actually make you feel that bad!

5. You tend to become socially awkward

You have always prided yourself on being a bright friendly girl who seems to make friends easily. But here in this new place you have grown into this sulky little woman you didn’t know existed. Or worse! You seem to be too eager to please, hence, repelling the new batchmates, or coming across as “a bit too much”. Actually, this is not your fault, at all. You are feeling lonely, so you are finding it hard to be your normal self.

Recognize these symptoms when they occur. Get into some kind of sport or an engaging activity. Don’t bottle up! Call your mum and dad. Write a letter. Yes, you read that right. Chatting and texting are grand. But nothing beats old fashioned letter writing. It’s not for nothing writing is called therapeutic! Soon, you will learn to get on with your new life and bounce back!
