5 Reasons Why Splitting the Check on a Date is a Good Idea

5 Reasons Why Splitting the Bill on a Date is a Good Idea

Men are traditionally known to be the ones who pick up the check on a date. But sometimes, it is a good idea to split the check. Here are reasons why and situations which call for going dutch when you go out on a date.

1. After a few dates, a guy might think that you are splurging his money

It is understandable if you allow a guy to pay for your first few dates. But if you don’t offer to split the check on the dates afterwards, the guy may think that you are only interested in splurging his money. This can affect your relationship negatively and he may not be so eager to go out on dates with you if he feels that he will have to pay for them all the time.

2. It is a good idea when you ask him out on a date

Does your guy ask you out on a date all the time? Why don’t you turn the tables on him for once and ask him out? Tell him that you want to take him out on a date and that all the expenses will be yours. Plan for the date, drive and pick him up, take him to the venue and drop him off when the date is over. Be in charge from start to finish, including when it comes to paying the check. He may feel embarrassed when you decide to pay the check, so offer to split it with him. It will be a fun date where you are in charge of everything.

3. It shows that you are at par with him financially

It may be a good idea to split the check if your guy is under the false impression that you are not at par with him financially. Show him that you also have a job that matches his job in worth, by offering to pick up the check every once in a while. This will send a direct message to him that whatever luxuries he can afford, you too can.

4. It’s a relief for the guy if he’s going through a financial crisis

Is the guy that you are dating broke? Is he going through tough times financially? He may feel awkward in asking you to pay for your share when you go out on a date. Save him the embarrassment and offer to split the check. This will make it easier on him from a financial perspective and you both can continue to go out on dates without interruption.

5. It is a good idea when you are on a vacation

Splitting the check is a good idea when you are on a holiday or vacation with your guy. Unless your guy is a multi-millionaire, he is likely to expect you to bear your share of expenses including accommodation, meals and tickets. You should offer to split the check when you are travelling, whether it is at an expensive restaurant or a cheap take-away.
