Obesity is a growing health concern around the world. There are plenty of health risks involved when a person suffers from obesity. Though sometimes it can be due to abnormal hormonal changes, most of the times, obesity is a result of improper dietary habits and sedentary lifestyle. There are many myths and facts about obesity. Listed here are some of them.

1. Body Mass Index or BMI decides whether a person would fall in the ‘overweight’ category or be called ‘obese’. The BMI is actually the measure of body fat in ratio with the height and weight of a person. If an individual’s BMI is between 25 and 30, then they are overweight; on the other hand, if the BMI is higher than 30, they are considered obese.

2. There is plenty of research being done on why obesity affects children. Though there are no proper conclusions, socio-economic reasons are said to be the major reason for obesity among children. Obese children are most likely to grow up as obese adults; though some of them can overcome it with proper care.

3. In the recent decades, there has been an abnormal rise in the obesity levels, both among adults and children. Though there are many reasons attributed to the condition, lack of physical activity is said to be the major reason for the increase in obesity.
