11 Ways to be Strong After a Breakup

7. Re-do your house

You may think that this is a crazy idea. However, experts explain that change in one’s physical space and environment can do wonders to bring about psychological change and positivity in one’s life. Clean up the clutter in your house, which is also symbolic of cleaning up the clutter from your life. Throw away the old gifts given to you by him, if you feel they are bothering you a lot.

8. Don’t be self-destructive

A common tendency that most people have after a breakup is to get into the habit of constant drinking or smoking. They stop eating, lock themselves in a room and take no calls from anyone. Stop being this self-destructive person. Instead, get a breath of fresh air in your life and do things that you like. Indulge in things you couldn’t do while you were dating, and look at overall self-improvement and wellness. Feel good about yourself, all the time. Join a gym, or enroll in dancing or yoga classes to get in shape and be fit.

9. Do things he hates but you love

Were there some things you couldn’t do while dating him because he used to hate them? This could range from watching some TV shows to visiting some places. Do all of those things now, and feel good about the fact that there is no one to stop you or boss over you.

10. Pamper yourself

Indulge in little pleasures and luxuries of life. Go for a special spa or salon treatment. Get a manicure or a pedicure or a haircut. Try on new colors of nail paints that you earlier never tried, and do fun things, that make you feel younger, prettier and happier. Do whatever your heart says. In your head and heart, the main focus should be on keeping yourself happy.

11. Give it time

Time is the best healer. To expect things to happen magically, overnight, is absolutely wrong. Give it sometime, and things will gradually start falling in place again. There is no definite period, which defines when a person is finally over the breakup. But anywhere between two months to one year is the average time people take to get over their breakups, depending on how serious the relationship was.

The more strong-willed you are about making your life better, post the breakup, the sooner you will recover from it. And once you are out of it, remember that there are plenty of fish in the sea! Don’t be scared to start liking someone. For all you know, that might be the end to all your miseries.
