10 Ways to Quit Drinking

6. Reward yourself

Review your progress periodically and reward yourself any way you wish (of course not with a drink).

7. Don’t lose hope

Even if initially you find that sometimes you just can’t get over the urge to drink, don’t get frustrated. It is normal. What is important is to keep trying.

8. Get a hobby

If drinking is the only pastime you have known for the last couple of years, it’s time now to get a new one and spend your time in a more fruitful and healthy way.

9. Exercise

It will not only keep you healthy but also according to some studies, subdue the urge to go back to drinking. Besides, after all that damage you have done to your body, it’s time now to do something good.

10. Avoid stress

Some people give the excuse for drinking to relieve stress and get over anxiety. So stay away from tension as much as possible at home or at work.

If you follow the above points, you will definitely get over drinking. But more important than quitting is not going back to your old ways. As Mercedes McCambridge once put it, “Alcohol is a very patient drug. It will wait for the alcoholic to pick it up one more time.” So once you have quit drinking, don’t ever think of taking up a glass again.
