10 Tips to Keep in Mind If You are Suffering from Panic Attacks

Panic attacks can be minimally described, as a sudden onset of negative feelings and anxiety, causing emotional and physical discomfort. It’s not rare to witness or experience a panic attack. Most of the times people who are suffering from frequent panic attacks resort to cigarettes, alcohol or sleeping pills. These are temporary solutions; many times lack of these can also trigger anxiety attacks and emotional turbulence. It only takes 5 minutes to come out of a panic attack. Please read the pointers below to know what to do and what not to do while experiencing a panic attack.

1. Try to compose yourself

If you are driving, stop the car and step out in the clear air. If you are standing, then sit down, change your position and be comfortable. Place your palms over your knees and take deep breaths. Calming down will stop the discharge of adrenaline which forces the body for strenuous physical activity or fight response.

2. Talk to yourself

Panic attacks mostly occur for a reason. They could be matters of concern or just mere silly reasons. Say to your self, “Okay, I will do it”. Chant “Alright”, “It’s all okay”. By doing this you are letting your mind search for a solution without fearing the problem. Try coping statements such as “Everything is fine”, “It’s not the end of the world”.

3. Write it down

Most of the panic attacks are caused by worries, impending tasks, and domestic matters. Jotting down your concerns can clear your head and vent out the frustration. Write whatsoever comes to your mind. Scribbling sometimes has an adverse affect so try writing neatly.

4. Drink water

Do not resort to addiction just yet. A glass of room temperature water works fine. Also avoid caffeine and aerated drinks.

5. Accept your feelings

Accepting your feelings can solely lead you to gradual comprehension. Recognize the problem and how you feel about it. Give your mind some time to scrutinize the issue, before taking up any action.
