6. Learn something new

Who says learning is something only the young can do. In fact, it is actually after retirement that you can be free to learn everything you really wanted to know about before, but work and responsibilities got in the way. So now, join up for whatever you want to learn-computers, art, guitar and music lessons, dance, aerobics, yoga. The more you learn, the more active you will be.

7. Learn to relax

Learn something like yoga or Tai Chi. These stretching and strengthening exercises will help you with your balance, maintain the elasticity of your body and help you to counteract joint and muscle pain and combat various lifestyle affecting ailments like blood pressure and arthritis. They will improve bone density, relieve anxiety and help you to sleep better.

8. Get your dose of Vitamin D

Get enough sunlight to help your body get its daily dose of vitamin D. Foods which have vitamin D should also be consumed, because this vitamin may help protect you from many diseases.

9. Surround yourself with things that bring you comfort

You have earned a right to enjoy your old age the way you want. Get comfortable and surround yourself with things that give you pleasure. Indulge in good books, enjoy listening to music, get busy with gardening, do things that make you happy.

10. Offer a helping hand

Offer help to others. Babysit your grandchildren, participate in their school functions, teach an illiterate child. Reach out to those less fortunate than you. Help out in whatever way you can. Helping others will help you to live a healthier and more productive life.

However young or old you might be, start to live your life according to these tenets to enjoy a fruitful, rich and healthy life.
